Esenam Abra Drah is a passionate mental health advocate, speaker, writer, entrepreneur and YouTuber.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and Linguistics from the University of Ghana. A committed Christian, she considers her faith as a pillar in her mental health journey after being diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder in 2015.
Her work as a mental health advocate actively began as a Champion in a pilot project to end the stigma surrounding mental health in Ghana. This campaign was funded by Time to Change Global UK in partnership with Christian Blind Mission (CBM) and Mental Health Society of Ghana (MEHSOG) in 2019. While working as a Champion, she was stigmatized and fired from her last teaching job after disclosing to her employer that she lives with a mental health condition. This negative experience rather fuelled her to start her own YouTube Channel (Mental Health Quarters) to end the stigma surrounding mental health.
With more free time on her hands, she also started writing a book based on her road to recovery. Esenam is currently an executive member of Psychosocial Africa; a grassroots mental health support group set up by and for people with lived experience of mental illness.
She served as an Executive Committee Member with the Global Mental Health Peer Network (GMHPN) while working with MEHSOG as their Projects Coordinator between the years 2020 to 2021.
Esenam has been invited as a speaker to many talks, presentations, webinars both locally and internationally. She has also been invited as a guest on several television and radio programmes where she shares her lived experience to create awareness on mental health. Esenam loves to read, hang out with family, friends and watch movies for leisure.
